January seems to be the month for me that I start to get into the mood for art journaling again .. there is something about this time of the year that makes me want to capture the fragments that make up my life.. images and visuals that hold my imagination and play freely in my art journal.
Keeping an Art Journal is for me something of a hit and miss at times.. I rarely stick to any agenda or rules , I tend to have several art journals going at the same time .. some are sketchbooks on a particular theme, I have a couple of travel art journals where i tend to collage, sketch and jot down ideas ..
I love the idea of visibility...and this year I am trying to keep a record of the fragments of daily life that often get lost amidst other creative busyness.. art journals online sometimes i see a picture in a magazine , a flash of texture a colour, that may provide inspiration for an artwork later on .. so a daily journal ..or not even daily ..just as it happens really ( remember i dont like rules :-) art journals online
Art Journaling can be as simple or a involved as one chooses to go with, a pencil and an art journal book with good quality drawing paper are the basics ..and every mixed media collage supply one can think of can be included if so desired... Starting with a blank watercolor sketchbook or creating an art journal altered art journal from a used book .. the options are endless ... so lets play...

~ I am going to try and keep a record of my art journaling progress
~ I will try and keep a listing of art supplies i use for my art journals online ,
~ May people have ask me what kind of art journal sketchbook I use.. it is one that is manufactured here by a small papermill close to me ..and unfortunately not widely available outside of the uk .. but a good quality heavygrade cartrisge paper or a hot pressed watercolor paper journal will be good to use and withstand the mixed media collage techniques
~ Different art journals from different manufactureres.. it is a case of trial and error to find the one that suits ones style of art journaling techniques best ..

~ Feature an old diary / calendar page in your art journaling
art jounraling can be done with as many different supplies as possible but also with very limited supplies , in essence some recycled collage papers, pens, and some paint is all that is needed ..
looking at what is available and can be reused, like old diary or clanedar pages with interesting colours, shapes and patterns that maybe able to be incorporated into art journaling designs
Something I rarely do is plan or even have a theme in mind before I start art journaling... I sort of look around me, may grab a few magazines to see what catches my inspiration and then just literaly start throwing things together.. the magic always happens on the page not in my head :-)
Art Supplies I used for Day 5 Art Journal January 2010 Day 5
~ I will try and list as many art supplies as I can, some I dont have the name or source for anymore, like rubberstamps I have had for years etc, but I will try my best to list all the art supplies that I can :-)
***Spritzer Bottles filled with acrylic ink
***Stabilo all pencil I use it for most thin outlining etc as it will write over paint, glue etc quite well
***Heat Gun when I would like to speed up the drying time of acrylic paints and glues I often use a heatgun to accelerate the process... needs to be applied slowly so as to not bubble up the paint
*** Pitt artist pens ~ I use pitt pens ( not pitt brush pens) for writing and embellishing, they come in different line width and i use several overlapped
~ Stabilo Woody The big fat pencil ..i do not know of a supplier , you might need to google in your own country for who stocks art supplies by stabilo)
