The name Zentangle has been coined to describe a particular style of doodleing that focusses on repetative patterns, whereas zendoodles can be more loose anf freeflowing without an obvious connection to each other. Zendalas are based on the central theme of the mandala, a circle as a starting point for zendoodling or zentangle patterns.
zentangle.com is a website that have pioneered this particular named artform out of the realm of doodling

~ Doodles whether Zentangles or Zendoodles have always been part of many peoples lives..often unconsciously when talking to someone on the phone ir sitting in a meeting the doodling pens would make their way over many a blank page

Zentangles are repeated patterns, with somehat more of a focus on connecting the doodles either within a given space or to each other

~ there are all kinds of ways of drawing and doodling zentangle like patterns and repetative doodles...

~ it is fun combining zentangles with other forms of art like mandalas and photography

~ here I have taken the idea of a handprint within a circle mandala and played with zentangles and doodle tangles to fill the space created by intersecting the hand with into 3 parts with a wavy line horizontally and vertically ...

~ What interests me is how they eye follows the hand ... and holds on to its outline yet the patterns contain their own identity in each segment within the circle

Art Supplies for Zentangle and Zendoodle Drawing

~ good quality drawing pens are essential when doing finely detailed zentangle tangles as the flow of the ink in the pen has to be fast and able to cope with repetative pattern doodling

~ it is not essential to have good quality pens, zentangles can be drawn with virtually any art supply, however for pen and ink type drawings I prefer the following pens for my tangles and doodling

they come in various sizes for fine detail to bold brush pen work

~ Rotring Rapidograph Pens
these pens come in the finest of nibs, used for technical drawing, i love the inkflow and they can be refills

~ Rotring Tikky Graphic Pen
as above but in a non refillable pen form, not as many options but great for quick zentangles on the go
