Mixed Media Art Questions answered by Milliande
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ When working in my art journal of mixed media collage backgrounds I tend to work with both gluesticks and gel medium ..
~ For gluesticks I like using a good quality glue stick that adheres well and does not have too much of a water content so the papers dont wrinkle ... Uhu also does a pink coloured one which is useful when one wants to see where glue is still missing
~ If the art journal is to be kept for a long time .. ie an scrapbook style art journal as a family heirloom it is worth looking out for archival quality glue sticks ( most scrapbook stores stook various brands) as that will reduce the yellowing and going brittleness of the pages
~ I also use Goldens Gel mediums , either soft gel, or regular gelmedium matte and have also had great success with a product called modge podge glue which was originally designed for decoupage but has been used by many art journal artists and comes at a good pricepoint
~ if the paper i adhere is small and thin enough i tend to use glue stick ... I also carry a gluestick for my travel art journal, where I take a small mini version and it allows me to glue in snippets quickly on the run
~ When I am art journaling a " light page" I tend to use gluestick and if the gel medium is in easier reach I guess I use that .. giggle .. but generally large pieces I adhere with gelmedium ..but thinking about it I guess I do chop and change as my mood ..
~ If I am aiming for heavy distressed backgrounds in my art journaling and am intending to paint over it, sand it and distress the paper, then i tend to use gel medium as the bond appears stronger and can withstand some rough handling ...
~ hope this helps
