January seems to be the month for me that I start to get into the mood for art journaling again .. there is something about this time of the year that makes me want to capture the fragments that make up my life.. images and visuals that hold my imagination and play freely in my art journal.
Keeping an Art Journal is for me something of a hit and miss at times.. I rarely stick to any agenda or rules , I tend to have several art journals going at the same time .. some are sketchbooks on a particular theme, I have a couple of travel art journals where i tend to collage, sketch and jot down ideas ..
I love the idea of visibility...and this year I am trying to keep a record of the fragments of daily life that often get lost amidst other creative busyness.. art journals online sometimes i see a picture in a magazine , a flash of texture a colour, that may provide inspiration for an artwork later on .. so a daily journal ..or not even daily ..just as it happens really ( remember i dont like rules :-) art journals online
Art Journaling can be as simple or a involved as one chooses to go with, a pencil and an art journal book with good quality drawing paper are the basics ..and every mixed media collage supply one can think of can be included if so desired... Starting with a blank watercolor sketchbook or creating an art journal altered art journal from a used book .. the options are endless ... so lets play...

~ I am going to try and keep a record of my art journaling progress
~ so I lasted until Day 8 so far... phew..it has been hard the last couple of days to keep going... we are completely snowed under.. have not seen any weather like this since the 1980'2 .. lots of provisions need to be made, extra firewood be brought in, snowigloos being build and a whole different way of life has creeped in ..an interesting transition .. that seems to find its way in my art journaling too ... so
~ I will try and keep a listing of art supplies i use for my art journals online ,
~ May people have ask me what kind of art journal sketchbook I use.. it is one that is manufactured here by a small papermill close to me ..and unfortunately not widely available outside of the uk .. but a good quality heavygrade cartrisge paper or a hot pressed watercolor paper journal will be good to use and withstand the mixed media collage techniques
~ Different art journals from different manufactureres.. it is a case of trial and error to find the one that suits ones style of art journaling techniques best ..

~ " Fast Faces "
Doodle, Sketch , Draw an art journal page of Fast Faces
Loosening up, letting go of expectation but experimenting with drawing faces... fast, sketches with no need to finish the drawing of the face just doodling with ideas
When drawing faces, try not to think to much of the outcome, rather place dots and doodles for the facial features, smudge to see where they eyes may want to look rather then where you want them to look
Everyone has a different way to draw faces, so anything goes really ... whatever suits your way of drawing and sketching, try alternating between different pencil width, watersoluble pencils and anything you have to hand in the way of drawing art supplies to stay loose and fluid when drawing faces on your art journal page ..
try and fit as many different small faces on your art journal page... do not spend more than 1-2 minutes drawing faces... then idea is to stay in the flow and not to be too concerned with the final outcome ...
Try different eye positions if you can , facing up or down, eyes closed or open ... if you like play with drawing hairstyle ideas too but dont worry about drawing guidelines... leave them in so as to not be too distracted to " make the drawing perfect" :-)
