January seems to be the month for me that I start to get into the mood for art journaling again .. there is something about this time of the year that makes me want to capture the fragments that make up my life.. images and visuals that hold my imagination and play freely in my art journal.
Keeping an Art Journal is for me something of a hit and miss at times.. I rarely stick to any agenda or rules , I tend to have several art journals going at the same time .. some are sketchbooks on a particular theme, I have a couple of travel art journals where i tend to collage, sketch and jot down ideas ..
I love the idea of visibility...and this year I am trying to keep a record of the fragments of daily life that often get lost amidst other creative busyness.. art journals online sometimes i see a picture in a magazine , a flash of texture a colour, that may provide inspiration for an artwork later on .. so a daily journal ..or not even daily ..just as it happens really ( remember i dont like rules :-) art journals online
Art Journaling can be as simple or a involved as one chooses to go with, a pencil and an art journal book with good quality drawing paper are the basics ..and every mixed media collage supply one can think of can be included if so desired... Starting with a blank watercolor sketchbook or creating an art journal altered art journal from a used book .. the options are endless ... so lets play...

~ I am going to try and keep a record of my art journaling progress
~ so I lasted until Day 8 so far... phew..it has been hard the last couple of days to keep going... we are completely snowed under.. have not seen any weather like this since the 1980'2 .. lots of provisions need to be made, extra firewood be brought in, snowigloos being build and a whole different way of life has creeped in ..an interesting transition .. that seems to find its way in my art journaling too ... so
~ I will try and keep a listing of art supplies i use for my art journals online ,
~ May people have ask me what kind of art journal sketchbook I use.. it is one that is manufactured here by a small papermill close to me ..and unfortunately not widely available outside of the uk .. but a good quality heavygrade cartrisge paper or a hot pressed watercolor paper journal will be good to use and withstand the mixed media collage techniques
~ Different art journals from different manufactureres.. it is a case of trial and error to find the one that suits ones style of art journaling techniques best ..

I love the way my pan pastels seem to snealk in everywhere at the moment, there are just so lush to work with .. playing around with different layers on my art journaling pages and really pushing the mixed media playtime.. exploring who writes over whom , what can be achieved with different layouts and literally let the art journaling happen on the page as I reach for the next art supply .. to see how they may fit or play together
I like playing with the white journaling.. even using the pen to draw rather than just with, something about the combintation of black pen and ink at the white journaling pen makes me happy :-))
I have played with the souffle gel pen too ..but that does not seem to like to draw so well over the pan pastels..seems to clog up more... I am still happy with just spraying a quick coat of pastel fixative over the art journal page before I start to add any journaling words... makes for the best and most easy flowing results
I really like the idea of cutting away the silhouette of the painted face on the art journal page edges..adds such a fun element for me ... almost like she is looking ahead to the next days art journal entry ...
Art Supplies I used for Day 25 Art Journaling Techniques Day 25 ~ I will try and list as many art supplies as I can, some I dont have the name or source for anymore, like rubberstamps I have had for years etc, but I will try my best to list all the art supplies that I can :-)
***Staz-On Ink Pads I used stone gray and hydrangea blue *** Rubberstamps most of the background stamps used where from the new range of PaperArtsy stampsand my own hand carved stamps
***Uniball Signo White ~ for the white art journaling writing .. washed over with watercolors to give a soft resist effect
*** PanPastel Artists Pastels the starter sets do contain some of the high density sponges and a couple of applicator tools to get started, my favourite set is the portrait set and the pastel colored set and I added a couple of single lime green colors cause i like them :-))
*** PanPastel Sofft Tools high density sponges and applicator tools with different edges
*** Matte Fixative Spray a quick spray of fixative seals in the panpastel residue., also good for graphite smudging, charcoal and sealing over your artwork . matte works well when wanting to have a workable fixative... gloss can be used as a final coat if that gloss look is desired
