January seems to be the month for me that I start to get into the mood for art journaling again .. there is something about this time of the year that makes me want to capture the fragments that make up my life.. images and visuals that hold my imagination and play freely in my art journal.
Keeping an Art Journal is for me something of a hit and miss at times.. I rarely stick to any agenda or rules , I tend to have several art journals going at the same time .. some are sketchbooks on a particular theme, I have a couple of travel art journals where i tend to collage, sketch and jot down ideas ..
I love the idea of visibility...and this year I am trying to keep a record of the fragments of daily life that often get lost amidst other creative busyness.. art journals online sometimes i see a picture in a magazine , a flash of texture a colour, that may provide inspiration for an artwork later on .. so a daily journal ..or not even daily ..just as it happens really ( remember i dont like rules :-) art journals online
Art Journaling can be as simple or a involved as one chooses to go with, a pencil and an art journal book with good quality drawing paper are the basics ..and every mixed media collage supply one can think of can be included if so desired... Starting with a blank watercolor sketchbook or creating an art journal altered art journal from a used book .. the options are endless ... so lets play...

~ I am going to try and keep a record of my art journaling progress
~ so I lasted until Day 8 so far... phew..it has been hard the last couple of days to keep going... we are completely snowed under.. have not seen any weather like this since the 1980'2 .. lots of provisions need to be made, extra firewood be brought in, snowigloos being build and a whole different way of life has creeped in ..an interesting transition .. that seems to find its way in my art journaling too ... so
~ I will try and keep a listing of art supplies i use for my art journals online ,
~ May people have ask me what kind of art journal sketchbook I use.. it is one that is manufactured here by a small papermill close to me ..and unfortunately not widely available outside of the uk .. but a good quality heavygrade cartrisge paper or a hot pressed watercolor paper journal will be good to use and withstand the mixed media collage techniques
~ Different art journals from different manufactureres.. it is a case of trial and error to find the one that suits ones style of art journaling techniques best ..

I like the idea of using personal photographs as collage paper for my art journaling .. somehow the idea of telling stories with images that belong closer to me are what I am interested in currently ... I love art photography ..looking closer at the daily visaul moments that light up my light... so using my photographs of hearts around our house ..creating new collage hearts with toys, building bricks , spoons and anything else to had to capture to mood of art from the heart with lots of love sprinkled over our art journal pages
I love this art journaling page by Maya ..it has got to be one of my favourites so far..her loose free style of applying colors with juice spontaneity makes me smile everytime I see her red cheeks immersed in the dance with the journaling muse
At times she would like to copy exactly what I do and gets frustrated when I rush ahead :-) ... here she started cutting out the squares before I started... and I intended my heart collage to stay whole... so she had to adjust...was a bit upset at first and then went with what she had... and so as to go with her original thought ..she connected all the heart squares with holding hands... 2 so they would stay connected to each other and not feel lonely " ... and I simply love the way her art journal page turned out ... so a little sticking with what we got can take as place we might never imagine
Art Supplies I used for Day 26 Art Journaling Techniques Day 26 ~ I will try and list as many art supplies as I can, some I dont have the name or source for anymore, like rubberstamps I have had for years etc, but I will try my best to list all the art supplies that I can :-)
***Uniball Signo White ~ for the white art journaling writing .. washed over with watercolors to give a soft resist effect
*** heart photography collage paper
*** PanPastel Artists Pastels the starter sets do contain some of the high density sponges and a couple of applicator tools to get started, my favourite set is the portrait set and the pastel colored set and I added a couple of single lime green colors cause i like them :-))
*** PanPastel Sofft Tools high density sponges and applicator tools with different edges
*** Matte Fixative Spray a quick spray of fixative seals in the panpastel residue., also good for graphite smudging, charcoal and sealing over your artwork . matte works well when wanting to have a workable fixative... gloss can be used as a final coat if that gloss look is desired
