January seems to be the month for me that I start to get into the mood for art journaling again .. there is something about this time of the year that makes me want to capture the fragments that make up my life.. images and visuals that hold my imagination and play freely in my art journal.
Keeping an Art Journal is for me something of a hit and miss at times.. I rarely stick to any agenda or rules , I tend to have several art journals going at the same time .. some are sketchbooks on a particular theme, I have a couple of travel art journals where i tend to collage, sketch and jot down ideas ..
I love the idea of visibility...and this year I am trying to keep a record of the fragments of daily life that often get lost amidst other creative busyness.. art journals online sometimes i see a picture in a magazine , a flash of texture a colour, that may provide inspiration for an artwork later on .. so a daily journal ..or not even daily ..just as it happens really ( remember i dont like rules :-) art journals online
Art Journaling can be as simple or a involved as one chooses to go with, a pencil and an art journal book with good quality drawing paper are the basics ..and every mixed media collage supply one can think of can be included if so desired... Starting with a blank watercolor sketchbook or creating an art journal altered art journal from a used book .. the options are endless ... so lets play...

***Neocolor artists crayons for wax resist techniques , crayons can be white for a pure resits, or coloured to leave the colors shining through after the wash
*** Art Deckle Ruler also useful for tearing watercolor paper to size and give it a deckle edge rather than a straight one
*** Matte Fixative Spray a quick spray of fixative seals in the panpastel residue., also good for graphite smudging, charcoal and sealing over your artwork . matte works well when wanting to have a workable fixative... gloss can be used as a final coat if that gloss look is desired
*** Eraser Stick great for precise erasing of tight corners
*** Pentel Tri Eraser triangular shaped razor for clear edges .. crete to use with an eraser shiled for eye pupils and fine details when drawing with graphite, pencil or charcoal pencils
***Erasing Shield I love using erasing shields to create shapes ..especially useful when drawing eyes for pupils etc
*** Tinted Charcoal Pencils oh man they are lush ... my husband suprised me with a box of these..all muted colors of charcoal with a tint of something beautiful... love the way the layer..and look great with a water wash from the aquabrush on top

~ I am going to try and keep a record of my art journaling progress
~ so I lasted until Day 8 so far... phew..it has been hard the last couple of days to keep going... we are completely snowed under.. have not seen any weather like this since the 1980'2 .. lots of provisions need to be made, extra firewood be brought in, snowigloos being build and a whole different way of life has creeped in ..an interesting transition .. that seems to find its way in my art journaling too ... so
~ I will try and keep a listing of art supplies i use for my art journals online ,
~ May people have ask me what kind of art journal sketchbook I use.. it is one that is manufactured here by a small papermill close to me ..and unfortunately not widely available outside of the uk .. but a good quality heavygrade cartrisge paper or a hot pressed watercolor paper journal will be good to use and withstand the mixed media collage techniques
~ Different art journals from different manufactureres.. it is a case of trial and error to find the one that suits ones style of art journaling techniques best ..

Art Supplies I used for Day 28 Art Journaling Techniques Day 28 ~ I will try and list as many art supplies as I can, some I dont have the name or source for anymore, like rubberstamps I have had for years etc, but I will try my best to list all the art supplies that I can :-)
used with the applicater sofft tools and sponge to create quick and easy covered backgrounds that blend well togehter..
*** PanPastel Sofft Tools with interchangable sponge applictors for easy use of light and dark hues of color
*** Matte Fixative Spray seals in the panpastels..they have a slight powdery chalky feel to them,,ok for art journaling pages to leave unfixed byt need to be fixed if put on canvas or display art
