Artist Letha Richardson Art Journal Pages Online 2010 Day 22 Mandalas

by Letha Richardson
(Cody, WY, USA)

Art Journal Online - Art Journaling by Letha Richardson

~ Art Supplies used

Art Supplies

gel medium,
magazine clippings
stamps,
stazon inks
alcohol inks
gesso
water color crayons

This ended up as a challenging page for me. I had trouble getting my transfers to work correctly, so after starting over the third time, I decided I was going to work with whatever came out. I had planned for more layers of transfers, but I was afraid I would mess up again, so I added stamping instead of more layers.
I started with the transfers, then added the birds and border stamps, then layered on some alcohol inks for the background, gesso smears and water color crayons.

Thank you for submitting your art journal page

~ I like the way the flower pots work in such soft hues on your backgroun

~ When I paly with this type of gel medium transfer layering... I tend to start with a very busy pattern background layer... as that gives me a base to work from... these multiple layers are never quite precise..more grungey in look so playing with the surprise element of what might turn up and concentrating on patters works better then planning how it is supposed to look like..if that makes sense

~ gel medium transfers take a little practice... a lot can depend on the quality of the magazine page, the texture of the receiving paper in your art journal ..they type of gel medium used and indeed the amount of pressure applied when doing the gel transfer itself ... I only use a damp cloth to rub down the gel medium tranfer..and i use a circluar motion so as to avoid braking the magazine page...

~ Sometimes when i have used a little too much gel medium ... parts of the gel medium transfer work on one side and the part with too much gel medium does not...

thanks for sharing, happy art journaling
