As soon as I saw the prompt for the day I knew I wanted to make the chequered border out of crossword puzzle.

I had seen the idea somewhere before and liked it, the rest came together, inspired by the cold winter experienced in the northern hemisphere while I am sweltering in the heat.

I remembered winter walks through the forest in Switzerland when I was young and how there would be mangers set out to feed the deer. Then I thought up a story about the lady in the old photograph and found words that would fit the story in the crosswords and highlighted them.
