Mixed Media Art Questions for Milliande
I've just begun with photoshop and discovered the "filter" tool. I've altered a few photos and am excited with the 'new' image. I have then colored this new image with pencils. Is anyone else doing this?
Is there a name for this process? I googled but can't find reference to this type of art.
Are these then "originals"?
Note: I am not transfering these photos onto canvas; instead I'm working directing on the Epson Presentation Matte paper, archival.

Mixed Media Art Questions answered by Milliande
As I understand, you take a photo , then alter in in photoshop with filters etc ... then print out the altered photo art onto epson matte paper .. which then becomes your " canvas" to color it in with art pencils .... did I get that right ?
If so ... that is an interesting questions as to what this process is called .. hmm not quite altered art , not quite altered photography ... so I guess it would fall into Mixed Media Art .. which can host a variety of different layers , art materials in one particular artwork ..
In your case we have
a photograph
an altered photograph
matte paper
and colored pencils ... layered in different stages
SO I would called it Mixed Media Art , how about everyone else ? any suggestions ?
As to whether it is original art or not ...
If you have taken the photograph yourself and are coloring it by hand then YES ... as each time you print the outline out then hand coloring will be different
If you color it digitally and then print it out it would be a print as it is easily printed repeatable times ...
That would be my take on it, as far as I understand your art process to be :-)
hope this helps

I am intriqued by the notion of universal consciousness and choose to peek closely at the small particles that make up existence.
Human and living form cell biology, the interplay of microcosm and macrocosm, quantumphysics and the spiritual connection to the Self all nurture me with an endless stream of inspiration.
The female form and its nature of being, the beauty of motherhood, viewing the world in fragments rather than wholes and the palpable energy exchange and communication between them are central themes in my artwork.
I enjoy making the invisible visible and creating openended visual artworks that invite the viewer to explore deeper within their own layers of perception.
Contemporary Mixed media art techniques provide a rich playground for my artistic impulses and allow room for an individual approach to the multilayered facets of my artwork.
