Confused about the Soft gel transfer

by Lisa Werner
(Ephrata, PA USA)

Mixed Media Art Questions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few days ago in your art journaling you used magazines and transfered the image in the journal. You showed the Golden bottle....but, I could not see what is was.
What product did you use to brush on your journal page prior to placing the image down?
You also rubbed the page with a rag. Did you use water and other liquid?
Thanks in advance....and I just love your work. You have inspired me to think outside the box!
Mixed Media Art Questions answered by Milliande
Hi Lisa,
I am glad you enjoy my art journaling videos and yes the gel medium transfer techniques can be confusing, as so many different effects can be achieved depending on what method and what brand or type of gel medium is used ..
In the art journaling videos I used a brand of gel medium by Golden .. it is their SOFT GEL Medium .. matte ..
the effect I get with this type of technique I use -- is a grungey unpredictable gel transfer as I am not after a complet image transfer
The matte soft gel medium contains more chalk like substances to give it a mat effect but can result in making the transfer milkey ..in this instance I desire that effect
The gloss soft gel medium woul create a more transparent gel medium transfer... that gives a clearer image ... ie more of the origianl image is like for like tranferred .
In the technique in this video I use a wet ( but not too wet) rag on the back of the paper to be tranferred ..that helps push the image into the gel medium and also makes the paper wet-- so the paper and the gel medium dry at the same rate...
hope this helps
