Creativity - Inspiration for Art Journaling
Mixed Media Art Questions for Milliande
I painted watercolours but for almost 10 years I have been blocked it seems.
I have come across your site and those glorious videos.
Now I am enthused to play with an art journal but I have not been having much success.
I feel rather inhibited and could use with a few words of advice or encouragement.
Sometimes I feel I have lost touch with my artistic eye.
My creativity seems to have been tucked away and finding is not coming easily.
An admirer, Marg.

Mixed Media Art Questions answered by Milliande
Hi Marg
and thanks for your kind words about my art, I am glad my videos help to inspire you
Art Journaling is a great way to get back into the playful aspects of art as there are really no hard or fast rules to follow and playing with paints, color and form is all that is desired... here an experpt of my words re art journaling
"
Art Journaling really is a varied fields that is inclusive of many different styles and approaches
For me art journaling is about visual communication ... rather than words .. often words are the underlying inspiration for a page such as an art journal prompt , a feeling or an idea ..or a simple happening of the day
A lot of artists use art journaling as a way to process certain daily experiences and emotions .. some choose to do free form or stream of consciousness writing before adding imagery .. some choose to start with color, paint and collage before adding their words and writing on top ...and yet others don't use any words at all but rather let the imagery tell their story each time anew...
I use words sparingly in my art journals, prefer open ended words that don't fence the meaning of the page in for me ..I find I can relate to imagery more than to words..yet often poetry will accompany my art journal pages...
Writing has a different energy feel for me... traditional journaling and diary keeping to me is more a way of capturing a memory ... art journaling is a way of communicating with ones own subconscious ..kind of like talking to the inner me... and visual imagery is like a dance of colors that gets her out to play
So really, there are no hard and fast rules .. no should's and should'nts as far as the correct way of art journaling is concerned... there is simply that which resonates with me...at the moment that i am creating... be it fragments of a sentence or imagery ... "
.... simpy choosing colours, letting your watercolours do a little dance on the page as they are..as they come out with no attention to an end result is a way forward...
The art journal is my friend, that catches each splash , each drop of paint that chooses to find its way onto my pages.. there is nothing to prove, nothing to hide... but the enjoyment of playing with colours to chase...
Let yourself be playful, pick up a brush...blindfolded if you are in a cheeky mood and simply see where the brush wants to go ...open your heart....let a breath of fresh unstagnated air enter ...and step out into something new...something that has no history of dos and donts, no attachments to outcome but the delicious memory of freefall into a bubble of artful flow
Feel free to join our Art Journaling Group in my Art Community for Women ..we are all in the same space and many will offer an encouraging word or two to connect ...here a link , feel free to take a peek if this resonates with you
