Drawing Faces - Online Classes Recommendations

Mixed Media Art Questions for Milliande

Hi Milliande:

I am interested in taking some online classes on how to draw faces.

I found someone on youtube that draws the kind of faces I like and she has online classes, but I would really like your input.

I have never taken classes to learn how to draw faces before so this would be beginner classes. Thank you, Iris

Mixed Media Art Questions answered by Milliande
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Iris,
~ Learning how to draw faces is high on the list of many a mixed media artist, there are as many ways to draw a face as there are artists out there :-)
~ as for online classes on how to draw faces, there are quite a few people out there offering various setups of online classes ..
Here are a few questions to consider before signing up for an online class:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~ not every artist is a good teacher
there are many fine artists out there who are jumping in on the bandwagon of online classes yet I find that many do not really have the know how of how to teach a wide audience in a difficult medium such as online ..

~ check the artists way of teaching
it would be good to ask questions about the teaching style of each artists..

...are they teaching with videos and pdf print out follow ups ?

... are videos downloadable or only accessible for the duration of class ?

... if videos are not downloadable do they require a long time to load ( can be difficult without reliable high speed internet access as they have to be reloaded each time you log on)

...are art supplies required for the class easily obtainable where you live ?

... is the artist available for questions for the duration of class ?

... are the class sizes structured as such that teacher attention can be guaranteed for each student ?

... does the teacher have a base knowledge of teaching step by step .. or are classes structured in a " watch the teacher paint" way ... both can be useful but some may be easier to follow than others

... does the teacher have a good video camera and knowledge on how to present a class ( ie if you are the viewer are the video back to front or easily followed with closeups for detail work

... are the how to draw faces videos offered in real time or sped up versions... again both can be useful but it is often difficult to follow a sped up version of an artist painting if it is not accompanied by a slower step by step version

... can your computer setup access the videos ( a lot of teacher choose a video provider other than youtube for classes that lets them password their videos... however some computers cannot always esily access them... worth checking beforehand)

These are a few considerations as to online classe per se .. on how to draw faces... if you have found a person whose style you like then learning how to draw faces just like that artist is a good start ...most offer beginner classes and then continue on to more specialized faces

It also depends whether you want to learn how to draw whimsical faces or more traditional lifelike faces

This is just a rough outline..if you have any more specific questions..feel free to comment :-)

have a playful day
