journaling (writing) in your art journal.

Mixed Media Art Questions

I'm enjoying your January journal a day but noticed much of your pages have no writing on them. Do you do this when you are finished or do you have a different type of journal to record your thoughts. I thought that was what art journaling was. combining your thoughts and art together.
Thanks for all your hard work. I love your different art supplies you get us to try.

Mixed Media Art Questions answered by Milliande
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Art Journaling really is a varied fields that is inclusive of many different styles and approaches
For me art journaling is about visual communication ... rather than words .. often words are the underlying inspiration for a page such as an art journal prompt , a feeling or an idea ..or a simple happening of the day
A lot of artists use art journaling as a way to process certain daily experiences and emotions .. some choose to do free form or stream of consciousness writing before adding imagery .. some choose to start with color, paint and collage before adding their words and writing on top ...and yet others dont use any words at all but rather let the imagery tell their story each time anew...
I use words sparingly in my art journals, prefer open ended words that dont fence the meaning of the page in for me ..I find I can relate to imagery more than to words..yet often poetry will accompany my art journal pages...
Writing has a different energy feel for me... traditional journaling and diary keeping to me is more a way of capturing a memory ... art journaling is a way of communicationg with ones own subconscious ..kind of like talking to the inner me... and visual imagery is like a dance of colors that gets her out to play
So really, there are no hard and fast rules .. no should's and should'nts as far as the correct way of art journaling is concerned... there is simply that which resonates with me...at the moment that i am creating... be it fragments of a sentence or imagery ...
