I READ YOUR REVIEW OF MICHAEL'S WORKSHOP, AND I HEARD HIM SAY HE PAINTS HIS METAL FIRST WITH WHITE PAINT, BEFORE DOING COLOR WASHES. DOES HE DO SOME PREP WORK ON THE METAL FIRST? LIKE SANDING, OR USE ANOTHER MEDIUM TO MAKE THE PAINT STICK ON SHINY METAL SURFACES. DOES HE USE GOLDEN'S PAINTS?
I LIKE TO INCORPORATE METAL INTO SOME OF MY MOSAICS AND AM INTERESTED IN MAKING THEM LOOK "AGED".
THANKS, JULIE

Mixed Media Art Questions answered by Milliande
Hi and thanks for your question, I do not know what Michael Demeng uses on his Metal artwork, the workshop I took was using altered books ... I would ask him himself :-) ... he has a facebook page where you can connect with him I think ..
As for metal parts ... yes sanding is always a good idea to remove any of the residue flakey parts that might be loose ... then a good coat of gesso .
Michael Demeng does use Golden Acrylic paints...and mixes them to achieve his own shades of antique effect colors...
I believe he has a new technique book out as well ... tou might be able to pick up some hints and tips there
