Milliande Art Snippet - Vintage Sewing Fibre Arts

Walking through London this visit, we have a long list of museums we have never been to ... so off we went ..

We had a lovely time exploring the Museum of Childhood in London , and it it the cute little vintage sewing machines, fibre arts ala homemaking style .

I have always been fond of the old singer sewing machines and my grandmother taught me on an old singer pedal operated sewing machine ... many a happy hour was spent threading away, learning the that the rhythm I manage to maintain is directly related to the outcome of the seam line ... a valuable experience to breathe and take it slow .

Walking through the museum, we stumbled upon a display of little childrens sewing machines ... many a little child must have been given one of these little singer sewing machines for childrens first sewing encounters.. often designed for homemaking, mending and making clothes for dolls and loved stuffable toys . From the first hand operated one, to vintage battery operated singers.. the display was just too cute and evoked many a remembered hour in my grandmothers house .

I am glad that today, Maya and I often spend time , either snuggled on the couch with a hand sewing project, some knitting needles or lately the first sewing machine projects have been tried and tested ..

When mentioning to a friend my nostalgic feelings towards the well loved Singer Threadle Machine he said, " Ohh I got one of those stashed away gathering dust .. do you want it, I could use the room ... "

My heart stopped , then a wide grin took its place and now I can happily look forward to the little machine being well- loved in its new home ...
