~ I have been hearing a lot about people chasing their muse, feeling in a creative block , uneasy to start projects that seem out of reach and generally just looking for inspiration

~ I first noticed "Artist Dates" mentioned in Julia Camerons Book of the same name ... but a lot of people find it hard to motivate themselves to actually "DO IT " rather than just read about it, think it great and then let it wash down the stream of thoughts that enter the mind and exit just as fast

~ Taking time out for Art is often seen as a secondary priority and often ends up even further down the list of "Have to's

~ Another time there is soo much inspiration, so many possible arty avenues , so many started and never finished projects that it seems like navigating this maze turns into a struggle rather than fun

~ Making a commitment to nurture yourself can be a very liberating starting point on your personal journey to honor your creative self

~ Now Letha and I have been talking - and she mentioned that sometimes it takes a little push for people to get creative, an incentive , a challenge that helps break out of the daily rhythm of "Have to's" and embrace "ME TIME "
~ Taking the "Artist Date" idea a little further,

• Playing with Painted Papers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Art Supplies used :

~ Caran d'Ache Neocolor II Artists' Crayons

~ Golden Fluid Acrylics ( 4-5 colors) you can play with less colors, I just used the same set of 5 colors to create my papers

~ Koh-I-Nor Watercolor Wheel ( an inexpensive watercolor wheel ..but any other watercolor will be perfect too )

~ Soft Mob Brush ( often used for Silkpainting ...but any brush with a large waterhold will do)

~ Golden Gel Medium matte

~ Speedball Pop-In Brayer Kit includes soft brayer

~ art journal or Watercolor Paper ( heavy cartridge paper over 160grm will do as well )

~ Watercolor Pencils ( I use Faber-Castell )

~ Tim Holtz Distress Inkpad ( Vintage Photo)

~ Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens ( I use shades of grey, black and brown most of the time)

WEEK THREE NOVEMBER 2008



~ 13 min Date :

ideas --inspiration

~ take some paper and paint and make some papers, ( see painted papers video 1 for inspiration on how I made mine)
~ choose 4-5 colors of paints that appeal to you in combination and add random patterns onto 5 sheets of watercolor or heavy cartridge paper
~ aim for different patterns, different densities ( ie more water-less water) and different amounts of white space

~ If you dont have time to make your own or would like to play with mine you can download the Painted Papers I made here

~ 1 hour date :

~ make painted papers as above
~ take painted papers and apply ink pen scribbles to create christmas ornament shapes ( See painted papers video 2 for how I made mine)
~ cut out the ornament shapes and make some christmas card or
~ take the painted paper ornaments and create some art journal pages or
~ make some seasonal gifttags out of painted paper ornaments or

~ Several Hours Artist Date:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

~ use the painted paper technique to create several coordinating painted papers
~ incorporate the papers into a mixed media collage either on canvas or on a wood panel

~ make painted paper ornaments , create 2 of the same size and laminate together to make christmas tree ornaments

~ create an art journal page - making a Christmas Wishlist ( see Painted Papers video 3 and 4 for my art journaling pages incorporating painted paper xmas ornaments )

~ Create several different painted papers in sets of 4-5 colors , then create a mosaic collage
