Thank you for the tips on using old books! I do love the messy look, so I will try your suggestions. I have also started using old children's board books and they work pretty well too. You can find fun ones that have peek a boo lift the flap sort of things and I found a few that had premade cut out windows on each page. It will take me awhile to figure out how to use those creatively because there are so many options!

using old books as journalsNEW by: Donna
Kristen,
I started a journal in an old book and immediately decided it would not work with wet media. Then I learned that if I stick 3 pages together with gesso, I can use wet media! I usually tear out a couple of pages when before and/or after the "new" page is made because I could see that the book was going to be so fat it would not even come close to closing. Now I plaster whatever I want on the pages and it works fine for me. If you want to make a "perfect" book, of course, this isn't a good idea because it is a very messy look. I like messy so it works for me.

I agree with you about the magazines, as they are on my list also. The workshops in techniques are invaluable. There are no studios left in my area for altered art or techniques that I am aware of, and these never have a waiting list. I learn so much with every issues. Super choices!
