The water brush in Day 6 Video

by Laura Donnelly
(Omaha Nebrska USA)

Mixed Media Art Questions

I am wondering as to the contents of the brush pen when you painted the tree in Day 6. Is is ink? And if so what kind.
I tried adding archival ink re-inker to a mister to get a black spray and completely gummed up the mister. So I thought I'd better ask before I tried something similar with the brush pen. Hope to hear from you as I'm anxiously awaiting to start Day 6

Mixed Media Art Questions answered by Milliande

Thank you for your questions,

I tend to use fluid acrylic ink in the aquabrush ..as it does not clog up the brush when painting with it

~ I tend to use the same color and water it down to achieve different strengths of tone form the same color of ink

~ I tend to mix and match brands of acrylic inks ... most can be acquired in an art store... here in the uk the most easily available brands of acrylic are by the art supply manufacturers Windsor and Newton and Daler Rowney ...

~ Daler Rowneys are called " Acrylic Artists Inks"

~ sometimes I also use india ink , especially waterproof india ink if I want to sketch an outline with the aqua brush first and then be able to color it in with lets say watercolors ... there are 2 types of india ink available ...waterproof and non-waterproof ..each beautiful to use depending on what effect I am after :-)

~ I rarely use acrylic reinkers in the aquabrush or the spraymister...and if than only the waterbased reinkers ( like the adirondack - DYEBASED reinkers ) ..and also watered down ... to give a more fluid consistency

hope this helps
