Mixed Media Art Questions for Milliande
Great videos!
Thank you for all of them!
I was wondering what you put on your brayer to give your journal the textured black, almost raised black design in your video with the picture of the two hands?
I saw there was something on your brayer like a string or something that gave the black some texture. What did you do exactly?
Thanks,
Elliott

Mixed Media Art Questions answered by Milliande
Hi Elliott,
I am glad you like my videos and they inspire you , thanks for taking the time to let me know. :-)
As for the Brayer... there are lots of different things that can be attached to a brayer to create textured effects... but mostly it is fun to choose a brayer that has a removable roll part ( ie it is not attached to the main frame of the brayer) so that objects can be fixed to it
My favourite way for a quick texture like you saw in the video is rubberbands. I look out ofr different size and thickness rubberbands and fasten them over the brayer ... the ink or paint will pick up color at different places depending on how they have been strung across... vertically or criss cross pattern like, overlapping...
It makes for some interesting effects ... this can also be fun to do with texture paste or molding medium to give raised surfaces for mixed media artworks.
Other fun things is to attach things like bubblewrap, clingfilm, crumpled tissue paper, foam to the brayer with rubberbands... for yet more interesting textures..
Basically anything that is soft an pliable and able to be shaped around the roll part of the brayer is suitable to be played with in this mixed media technique
Hope this helps

I am intriqued by the notion of universal consciousness and choose to peek closely at the small particles that make up existence.
Human and living form cell biology, the interplay of microcosm and macrocosm, quantumphysics and the spiritual connection to the Self all nurture me with an endless stream of inspiration.
The female form and its nature of being, the beauty of motherhood, viewing the world in fragments rather than wholes and the palpable energy exchange and communication between them are central themes in my artwork.
I enjoy making the invisible visible and creating openended visual artworks that invite the viewer to explore deeper within their own layers of perception.
Contemporary Mixed media art techniques provide a rich playground for my artistic impulses and allow room for an individual approach to the multilayered facets of my artwork.
